Binnacle for Android, package com.codehelm.binnacle, by CodeHelm Software, LLC. Last updated 14 October 2026.

Summary

Binnacle is a toy compass for Android with a puzzle inside it. It collects nothing about you. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party code of any kind. It does not request internet access permission, so it has no way to send anything anywhere.

What stays on your phone

The app remembers a few things so it looks the way you left it: which pendulum is selected, where the others are kept, and how far you had zoomed in. It also keeps a cache of compiled graphics shaders so that it starts quickly the second time.

All of this is stored in the app’s own private storage on your device. None of it leaves the phone, and all of it is deleted when you uninstall the app. Android’s automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app, so even these few settings are never copied to Google Drive.

Sensors

Binnacle reads the accelerometer, the gyroscope, and the magnetometer for realistic compass simulation. These readings are used only to draw the current frame. They are not recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Vibration permission is requested to provide haptic feedback to the user.

Crash reports

Binnacle contains no crash-reporting code. If you have separately chosen to share diagnostics with Google on your device, Android itself may send crash and performance reports to Google Play, and CodeHelm Software can see those reports in aggregate. That collection is Google’s, under Google’s privacy policy, and it is governed by the choice you made with Google rather than by anything in this app.

Children

No personal information is collected from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date above. If a future version of the app ever collects anything at all, this policy will be updated to reflect such changes before it ships.
